2013 MLB Betting Free Picks: Saturday, August 31st

Baseball Free PicksThere are few more miserable experiences in sports than second-rate Major League Baseball teams playing out the string with a full month left in the regular season.

Game 1: Kansas City Royals @ Toronto Blue Jays – Saturday, August 31 - bet at

When making your next play at any of the premier sports betting sites on the market, it is prudent to realize that while the Kansas City Royals have absolutely crumbled, losing a full week’s worth of games without interruption, they’re still basically a .500 ballclub. The Toronto Blue Jays, on the other hand, are worse than 15 games under .500. Kansas City is an average team, while Toronto is a bad one. One can’t be too sure of the outcome when two teams have both been sliding downward in the standings over the past two weeks – that much has to be conceded. However, if one did have to choose between these two clubs, one would be much more inclined to go with Kansas City, whose young hitters want to be able to lay a foundation for a 2014 season that looks genuinely promising at this moment.

It is hard to deny the notion that when the 2014 season begins, the Royals – for the first time in many years – will have legitimate playoff aspirations. They would not be deluding themselves to think that they could conted next year. Toronto, on the other hand, seems to be a complete mess after a disastrous 2013 season in which the Jays were expected to strongly contend for a playoff spot in the American League. Choose the Royals in this situation on Saturday in Canada.

My Pick: Kansas City

Game 2: Philadelphia Phillies @ Chicago Cubs – Saturday, August 31 - bet at

In bet online reviews, you will be able see that the two starting pitchers in this game are both carrying their fair share of the workload for their respective teams. Philadelphia ace Cliff Lee has an ERA of 3.16 in 24 starts, an impressive number when one realizes that he was injured for a period of time in late July and early August. Lee has battled through pain and has not seen his ERA numbers climb any higher than they did in the first weeks of August. He’s a pro’s pro who has lent stability to an underperforming Philadelphia pitching staff. His opponent, young Chris Risin, has been strong for the Cubs in his seven starts this season. Risin has thrown down a 3.08 ERA, giving the organization hope for 2014. If Risin continues to pitch at this level, but over 30 starts instead of 7, next season should witness some discernible improvements for the Cubbies. All in all, one should favor the established ace over the newcomer here. Sportsbook lines will gravitate to Philadelphia, and rightly so.

My Pick: Philadelphia

Game 3: Los Angeles Angels @ Milwaukee Brewers – Saturday, August 31 - bet at

A pay per head bookie service that takes business on this game will strongly lean to the Angels. It’s been revealed how dysfunctional the Angels have become under owner Arte Moreno, but a series win in Seattle this past weekend shows that this team is still playing hard for manager Mike Scioscia. The Angels have the better starter in this game. Los Angeles hurler Jered Weaver’s ERA has steadily been 1.2 to 1.5 runs lower than the ERA for Milwaukee starter Marco Estrada for most of the season. Milwaukee has been dogged by subpar pitching in 2013, so a play on the Angels makes sense, despite the fact that Los Angeles is the single biggest disappointment in the 2013 season (with Toronto being second and Washington being third).

My Pick: Los Angeles Angels
